Beach Seining
This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in ongoing research, see an amazing diversity of fish and other marine animals, and circumnavigate the island by boat- and all for free!
The City of Bainbridge Island initiated the beach seining project in 2002 in partnership with the Suquamish Tribe and the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife to produce a baseline inventory of species in nearshore waters around Bainbridge Island.
Volunteers spend approximately 5 hours visiting several sites around the island and setting and pulling in beach nets to collect and identify the animals that are caught. Ideally, the City is looking for a commitment to at least 2 seining dates during the calendar year.
